　　二月三日，此间戏园演法国名剧家白里而的《梅毒》（Damaged Goods），今载其戏单如下：

　　The object of this play is study of the disease of syphilis in its bearing on marriage. It contains no scene to provoke scandal or arouse disgust, nor is there in it any obscene word；and it may be witnessed by everyone, unless we must believe that folly and ignorance are necessary conditions of female virtue.

　　余与叔永、仲藩同往观之。此为近日社会名剧之一，以花柳病为题，写此病之遗毒及于社会家庭之影响，为一最不易措手之题。而著者以极委婉之笔，曲折达之。全剧无一淫亵语，而于此病之大害一一写出，令人观之，惊心动魄，真佳作也。演者都佳。串医生者尤为特色。第二幕最佳矣。

　　伊卜生（Ibsen）之《鬼》剧（ Ghosts）亦论此事，惟不如此剧之明白。伊氏作《鬼》剧时（一八八一），花柳病学尚未大明，其攻之者，犹以为花柳之病，流毒仅及其身及其子孙而已。三十年来，医学大进，始知花柳之毒传染之烈而易，不独为一家绝嗣灭宗之源，乃足为灭国弱种之毒。白里而氏（Brieux）此剧，盖得法国花柳病学巨子之助力，其言不独根据学理，又切中时势，宜其更动人也。
